In the context of the Imagine competition for urban innovation organised by Angers, AIA Life Designers’ runner-up project les Horizons Libres has brought about new encounters as well as certain sense of serendipity. The area is a neighbourhood that brings together a wide array of uses and users gathered around a green heart interspersed with meeting areas that foster collaboration, value creation and social ties. Sharing, exchanging, events with business owners… All these elements drive the local economy and foster short circuit transactions. By welcoming Campus Tech, the Horizons Libres project gives birth to an unprecedented place for training and experimentation: a school for entrepreneurship. In the midst of a transitioning economy, Campus Tech trains tomorrow’s entrepreneurs, brings together the region’s firms and drives job creation in the Anjou territory. The Horizons Libres are also place where one lives, it thus introduces innovative housing, such as the domicile-business residencies. Social and generational diversity is present within the island, thanks to social housing reserved for the elderly. These residencies benefit from the home automation innovations of Campus Tech in order to reach a greater autonomy. This porous island beckons the pedestrian to cross it via its hall and to stroll up to the gazebo. A public garden has been installed on the rooftop. It is linked to the terrace of the adjacent theatre, whose restaurant has a breath-taking panorama on the castle’s last tower.
